english project 6

a trip to London, a project for English

Over 26 million tourists visit London every year. And if you wonder why, you should know that there are lots of exciting things to see and do there: from visiting a museum or a historical site to going shopping in one of London's busy street markets or going to a concert or the theatre. No matter what your taste is, you can be sure you will find something suitable for you.

Sonia, Fran, Marcos, Cristina, Clara, Ruth, Belén, Rafa, and Aythami want to go to London in July, from the 8th to the 12th. Can you help them plan their trip?

tasks
  1. Make groups of three or four.
  2. Choose a character.
  3. Book the plane tickets and the accomodation.
  4. Considering your character's likes and dislikes, and budget, decide what he/she is going to do every day and book any necessary tickets (museums, atractions, concerts, boat trips ...).
  5. Whenever you make a reservation, take a snapshot or picture of your computer screen and paste it in a word document to prove you have booked the tickets and hotel room. To do so, press the Print Screen key, and then open Word and press Ctrl + v to paste it.
  6. Present your trip to the class (presentation tips).

cross-curricular project

healthy diets, a project for P.E., Maths and English

Gloria lives in El Calero, Telde. In this picture we can see her at home with her youngest son, Santi.

Gloria has got another son, Jonathan. He is 13 and studies in our highschol. Jonathan is always eating snacks and fast food, so his mother is really worried about his diet.

She is so worried that during her last meeting with Jonathan's tutor she asked for some advice. Jonathan's tutor told Jose Vico, the headmaster, and it occurred to him that some group could plan a healthy diet for Jonathan. Why not 2ºD?

To be able to carry out this task you'll get help from your P.E., Maths, and English teachers.

  • In P.E. you'll learn what a healthy and balanced diet is, and its importance.

  • In Maths you will work with proportions, so you can calculate how many calories there are in different food and dishes.

  • In English you'll learn vocabulary on food, and how to compare things.

tasks

  1. Make groups of six, and appoint a coordinator for each group.

  2. All coordinators will meet and decide on a healthy and balanced diet for five days.

  3. Then each group will be assigned a school day: from Monday to Friday.

  4. Plan a healthy menu for Jonathan for your day. Include: breakfast, break at school, lunch, tea time, and dinner.

  5. Complete this table for your Maths teacher.

  6. Present your menu in a PowerPoint presentation (kilocalories for each meal must be included).

evaluation

At the end of the project, you will be evaluated by your teachers and your classmates with these evaluation forms:

Reading and writing 1

This is the first reading and writing activity. As you can see, you have to match the sentences in the first slide with the notices in the second. You must write the answer in your notebook. Deadline: March 24th.

12 March 2010

YESTERDAY

You are going to watch a video in which some people answer the question:

"What did you do yesterday?"

After you watch the video, go to comments and,

  1. write one thing a person in the video did.
  2. write two or three sentences about what you did yesterday. Join your sentences with then, after that, finally, etc.

Example:

Yesterday, Rebecca attended a speech at Columbia University.

Yesterday afternoon I met a friend and we went to have a coffee. After that, I got back home.

english project 4

garañón, a project for English

Next April we are going to spend five days in Garañón. I'm sure we'll have such a great time together that we'll always remember that school trip. But ... just in case ... why don't we write our experiences in a blog? That way, we will always be able to look at the pictures we took and read about the things we did.

tasks
  1. Make groups of four.
  2. Decide which role each member of the group is going to take.
  3. During and after the schol trip, do the tasks assigned to your role.

roles

photographer

_______________________________________________________
  • During the school trip you can take as many pictures as you want, but then you must select about ten pictures.
  • After the trip, you must meet the other photographers with your 10 pictures. You all must select about 20 pictures.
  • From these 20 pictures, each photographer must describe 2 (what the weather was like, what people were wearing, what people were doing).
  • You all together must correct spelling and grammar mistakes.

diary keeper

_______________________________________________________
  • During the school trip, you must take notes about what the weather is like, what you do and what time you do it, how you all feel, etc.
  • After the trip, you must meet the other diary keepers, compare notes and write a final version for the writers.

writer

_______________________________________________________
  • Meet the other writes and decide which day each of you is going to write about (Monday, Tuesday, ...).
  • Using the diary keepers' notes, you must write a report for the blog.
  • As you are talking about past actions, you must use past simple and continuous tenses.
  • Check for spelling and grammar mistakes.

blog designer

_______________________________________________________
  • Using the writers' reports and the photographs, you must make a blog about the school trip to Garañón.
  • Check for spelling and grammar mistakes.
  • Try to make your blog attractive and interesting.

evaluation

At the end of the project, you will be evaluated by your teacher and your classmates. We'll use these evaluation forms:

teacher's
student's

notes

  • Students who are not going to Garañón will have to do a similar project. They can talk about a trip or journey they have made, and include some pictures with a description of what they were doing in the pictures.
  • Remember that you mustn't publish pictures of you if your parents don't aprove. If there is a picture you really like, you can remove your face from it before publishing.
